Command Description

The Array command allows you to make copies of objects using various array methods. This is a simple way to propagate objects in different geometric patterns, from simple grids to laying out guard rail posts along a road.

  • Click in the Selection field and then in a graphic view select the object or object that are to be copied in the array. Click Options for additional selection options.
  • Select a layer or create a new one.

3D array:

  • Number of copies – This is the total number of copies of the selected object to create.
  • Step x – Distance between copies in the X axis from the original.
  • Step y – Distance between copies in the Y axis from the original.
  • Step z – Elevation delta from the original object.

Polar Array:

  • Total number of items – This is the number of copies of the objects that will be spread over the angle entered below.
  • Center point – This is the centre of the polar array which the objects are copied around.
  • Angle to fill – This is the angle which the object copies will be spread over. The angle works in an anti-clockwise direction from the centre point for a positive value.

Rectangle array:

  • Rows – This is the number of rows to create.
  • Columns – This is the number of columns to create.
  • Row offset – This is the distance between each row.
  • Column offset – This is the distance between each column.

Linear array:

  • Control line – This is the reference line to control the positioning of new objects. Option to change the selection highlight colour for lines and to select an object from Reference files.
  • Additional options
    • Reference point – use this option to be place the object at a defined delta location from the control line. The reference point location will be placed on the control line. If a reference point is not used, then the start point of the object will be placed on the control line.
    • Additional rotation – Use this to nominate the angle from the reference point for the object to be placed.
  • Number of copies – If this is used the number of number of copies entered here will be spread evenly along the length of the control line.
  • Distance between copies – If this is checked the distance entered will be used between each copy along the control line.
  • Maintain perpendicular angle – Use this option to keep the object perpendicular to the control line. This is dependent on the settings you have used above and requires an additional rotation to work with some objects.
  • Restrict Chainage – Set a start and end chainage or leave this empty to run the length of the control line.
  • Click Apply to create the Array of objects.
  • Click Close to end and close the Array Objects command pane.
