Command Description
The 3D Object From Shape command enables you to select a closed polygon and extrude it along a control line. Options exist to create cross section strings, longitudinal strings and 3d shells which can be used for setting out or as-built models.
Lines:
- Select the Extrusion control line which will be used to control the shape at the origin point. The shape will be applied perpendicular to this line. Option to change the selection highlight colour and to select a line from Reference files.
- Check the Restrict chainage box to set a start and end chainage or leave this empty to run the length of the control line.
- Set a chainage Interval to be used to form the sections.
- Select a Grade control line to be used to calculate the crossfall back to the extrusion control line that the shape with be extruded on. If this is left blank, then the crossfall will be ‘level’. Option to change the selection highlight colour and to select a line from Reference files.
Shape:
- Select the Shape to be extruded in the form of a closed polygon. If the shape is not close it will be automatically closed in the process.
- Pick the Origin point on the shape that will be located on the extrusion control line.
- Pick the Orientation point on the shape that will be used to match the calculated crossfall between the extrusion control line and grade control line. You can leave this blank, and it will assume that the shape is orientated as it is drawn.
3D shell:
- Enter a BIM Group name for the new object. This will be saved in the project explorer under the BIM Data.
- Enter a Name for the new 3d object.
- Select a Colour for the new 3d object.
Options:
- Select or create a Layer for the created data to populate.
- Check the required outputs to create.
-
3D shell – This creates a 3d shell object of the extrusion.
- Check the close ends box to make the 3d shell object into a watertight solid.
- Check the Copy line attributes box to take any feature or 12d attributes from the extrusion control line and put them onto the 3d shell.
- Cross-sections – This creates the shape cross section at every interval location.
- Longitudinal lines – This creates the longitudinal line work linking the cross-section shapes.
- Include extrusion control nodes – This allows shape cross sections at every horizontal node on the control line.
-
3D shell – This creates a 3d shell object of the extrusion.
Do either of the following:
- Click Apply to create the 3d solid and keep the 3D Objects From Shape command pane open.
- Click Close to end and close the 3D Objects From Shape command pane.
Tips:
- This will not extrude shapes on a line that is only vertical.
- Nodes located in the “vertical” tab of a linestring will not be used with the option “Include extrusion control nodes”.
- You cannot use Composite polylines or polygons as the shape.
- Use the “Show line directions” command to turn on line direction arrows to make it easier to confirm control line directions.
