Command Description

The Insert Vertices from Points command enables you to select a line and some points to create new vertices (and optionally points) from points. Depending on the mode selected the new nodes will be created on the line perpendicular to the selected points, or the line is moved to the selected points.

  1. Click in the Points selection field and then in a graphic view select the points which you want to use to create the new nodes on a line. Click Options for additional selection options.

  2. Pick in the Line selection field and then in a graphic view to select the line you want to add the nodes to. Option to change the selection highlight colour.

  3. Tick the Max offset box if you need to limit the search area from the line that points will be used.

  4. Select the Mode to use:
    • Insert – This creates new nodes on the line perpendicular to the points selected without moving the line position.
    • Move – This creates new nodes on the line by moving the line onto the points selected.
  5. If using the “Insert” mode, choose from 3 options.
    • Tick the None box if all you want are new nodes on the line.
    • Tick the Create box if you want new points created on each new node on the line.
    • Tick the Move box if you want the original points moved onto each new node on the line.
  6. If the linestring contains “Vertical Tab” data then you need to tick the Convert to horizontal linestring box to convert that data to be used.

  7. Click Apply to apply the changes and keep the Insert Vertices From Points command pane open.

Note: This command only works on Linestrings.
