TBC Tips and Tricks

This article contains various tips and tricks that relate to the operation of Trimble Business Center.

• When calculating volumes you may find that the volume will not calculate - The cause of this can be a few things but mainly it is due to boundaries that are either being applied to a surface or to the volume calculation. We recommend Running the “Line node cleanup” to remove duplicate nodes and nudge vertical nodes, and “Check line Deflections” commands on the boundaries.
• Creating Surfaces from existing surfaces - It is possible to use existing surfaces as a member for a new surface. For imported surfaces this may improve their use.
• To create a new layer - you can simply highlight the layer pick box and press the “Space” key.
• Change Layer name in View Filter Manager - For any layers that are not protected or part of an FXL file you are able to double click the layer name in the view filter manager and change the name.
• View multiple line strings in a profile view - With the profile viewer open select the string you wish to view in the same profile view, right click to open the context menu, then hold shift and select Profile Viewer. Both linestrings should now be visible in the profile view.
• Display Deflection Angle in Alignment Editor - When using the alignment editor to view the geometry, there is an option to have the azimuth displayed as a deflection angle instead of an absolute azimuth. This is useful when checking imported alignments for errors. Hold the ctrl key down and click the settings button at the top far right of the alignment editor.
• Open a TBC project in an older TBC version - This will not always work and depends on the version change, however, to try this process, hold ctrl + shift at the same time and drag and drop the newer VCE file into a clean project of the older version of TBC.
• Editing the chainage on an alignment - You are able to edit the chainage for the horizontal part of an alignment in the Alignment editor, however to edit the chainage on the vertical part of the alignment so that it matches is not as easy. One way is to view the alignment in a profile viewer and use the CAD "Move Objects" command to select the start point and move it along to the required chainage.
• Slow rotate in 3d view - It is possible to slow down the rotate speed when using the 3d view by holding down the 'alt' key when orbiting.
• Line thickness in Profile view - To change the line thickness in the profile views you need to change the line weight of the '0' layer in the layer manager.
